The world needs connected humans now more than ever.
The world is moving at a record pace. With work, family, and friends all competing for our time and attention, so many of us are time poor, distracted, and feeling increasingly isolated. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs says that besides water, food, sleep, and safety, humans also need
connection, love, and a sense of belonging to be mentally healthy and happy.
Yet mental health statistics continue to increase.
To help, we must understand that connection needs to be nurtured.
There is a general misunderstanding about connection. We think connection is something that happens quickly and once established it stays forever… but that’s simply not true.
Connection is not created by a few interactions. Instead, connection is formed by a series of interactions—that takes intention, purpose, and consistency.
Once established, connection is one of the best protective factors we can invest our time in, leading to better mental health and more fulfilling and happier lives.
How do I know?
Hi, I’m John.
I’m a Body Safe advocate, Disclosure Response Specialist, senior educator and child sexual abuse survivor.
My two year ordeal at the age of six, and 30+ years on my healing journey have allowed me to navigate trauma and now formulate what helped create the foundation of my healing journey—connection and a sense of belonging.
Through my experience, I learned that no matter our past experiences (or present challenges), nurturing connection and a sense of belonging is the catalyst for prevention and antidote to our rising mental health problems, as well as many of the flow-on effects that occur from disconnection.
It is now my mission to share my message about the importance of prevention, protection and connection creating a sense of belonging for mental health and happiness.

John Cardamone is a person filled with bravery. In the short time I have known him I have been privileged to hear of his story of his tragic abuse and as a survivor myself I was blown away by how he chooses to move forward in life. His story captivates with the raw, real, and vulnerable descriptions and tones that he uses. I can see many people listening to John being encouraged and inspired to live the life they were born to live even though they may have encountered a similar life of abuse to John. Abuse should never happen and it is never the victim’s fault however when really bad things happen we have a choice in how we respond to it. John is responding by telling his story in the hope to encourage others in theirs.
